"Let's Play Hangman" brings a popular word game into a studio setting in front of a live audience. At stake is a big money prize. The show starts with a sealed envelope being placed on the host's desk. Inside is a word of up to twelve letters long and the first contestant is called up. A panel shows the corresponding blank spaces and the contestant starts to guess the letters. They have seven chances to guess the letters and then have a go at the whole word. If they guess a wrong letter, they lose a part of their prize. If their guess for the whole word is wrong, they lose the whole prize.
The set is designed to show the progress of the game. The prizes are represented on an electronic dummy with the seven prizes marked on different parts of its body in numbered order. Each part of the prize has a different value. The prizes are also spot lit in the studio. With each wrong guess, the set responds and a different body part rotates out of sight and the prize it represents is lost. The spot lit prize is also removed from sight. Once a contestant wins, or has a wrong guess at the word, or has used up all seven letters, a new contestant takes a turn. The simplicity of the idea and the responsive set make "Let's Play Hangman!" a fun, family show.
